Earth is the only planet in our solar system where there is life, where there are rivers, springs, mountains, forests, many animal species and where we are all humans too. But the greed and carelessness of all of us has created a crisis not only for other living species, but also for ourselves and the entire earth. In such a situation, organizing Earth Day is necessary to make us aware. Let us listen to the call of the Earth on this Earth Day and contribute our utmost to keep it clean and safe.

In Indian mythological texts, the earth is considered equivalent to the mother. It is the shelter of all of us. The enormous resources present on it have been received by all of us as gifts. Nature has given water, rivers, mountains, lush green forests and mineral wealth hidden under the earth to make our life comfortable as an heritage. We can earn money through our hard work, but we cannot increase these heritage of nature even after tireless efforts. Therefore, all of us should make every effort to preserve these heritage. Our earth is very beautiful. A large part of it is covered with water. Due to excess of water, it is also known as Blue Planet. But due to the negligence of all of us, this beautiful planet is now in danger due to global warming and pollution. To save it, awareness-raising events and campaigns like Earth Day are needed.

Hypothesis of World Earth Day

Earth Day is celebrated every year on 22 April to provide protection to the Earth and contribute and support it from all over the world. On this day 195 countries have extended their support. Programs are organized globally on this day. Many communities and NGOs, while supporting Earth Week, are taking exemplary steps to save the Earth by focusing on environmental issues around the world throughout the week. In the vision of Earth Day, we see the dream of that world in which the air and water around the world will be pollution free. Rivers will not shed tears on their plight. Soil, not diseases, but gold will grow. Earth will be able to live. In this way the society will be healthy and happy. Only then is the meaning of celebrating such days.

How Did The Tradition of Celebrating World Earth Day begin?

When the first Earth Day was celebrated, more than two thousand colleges, universities, and thousands of elementary and secondary school communities across the United States participated in it and protested peacefully against the environment. The first Earth Day was celebrated in 1970. Since then, April 22 is celebrated as Earth Day. The day was conceived by US Senator Gerald Nelson. Earth Day has proved to be a very successful international political initiative scheme, which is well supported by many. Which includes Republicans, Democrats, rich and poor, big businessmen, MPs, laborers, farmers. Along with this, an Act has also been passed to protect clean air, clean water and endangered species.

In the present era, Earth Day is being celebrated all over the world like a festival. It is celebrated by more than one billion people every year and a day routine is dedicated to environmental work. Currently, the issue of clean environment is becoming serious, as climate change is taking a devastating form.

The Crisis of Global Warming is Increasing

We have to understand that global warming has a very bad effect on the environment. In such a situation, it is necessary to be aware of keeping the environment right to save life. Population increases have added unnecessary burden on natural resources. Therefore, the importance of programs like Earth Day has increased for proper utilization of its resources. According to the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change), sea levels have risen 20 percent since 1880, and it has continued to rise. It can increase from 58 to 92 cm by 2100 AD, which is very dangerous for the Earth. The main reason for this is the melting of glaciers due to global warming. Due to which the earth can be submerged. According to IPCC environmentalist, the Maldives could be fully submerged by 2085.

What is The Importance of World Earth Day

The importance of Earth Day increases for the preservation of humanity, it motivates us to make excellent use of fossil fuels. Celebrating this has a positive impact on the promotion of awareness of global warming, which motivates us to improve our standard of living. Such organizing also cautions us for the unnecessary use of energy by storing and stating its importance. The new Clean Air Scheme was formed in the 1960s due to the awareness that the public had shown about pesticides and oil spills. Because of this, every new power plant that is started now has a separate device installed to emit less amount of carbon dioxide, so that it has less dispersion in the environment and reduces the damage.

How is Earth Day Organized?

On this day, people all over the world plant trees, participate in cleanliness programs and participate in a conference related to the topic that keeps the Earth safe through the environment. Generally, on the day of Earth Day, it is celebrated as a festival by people planting trees and cleaning the surroundings.

Theme of World Earth Day 2020

Every year a theme of Earth Day is set. This year i.e. 2019, the theme of Earth Day is - Climate Action. The Enormous Challenge.

Climate action means stepped-up efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and strengthen resilience and adaptive capacity to climate-induced impacts, including: climate-related hazards in all countries; integrating climate change measures into national policies, strategies and planning; and improving education, awareness-raising and human and institutional capacity with respect to climate change mitigation, adaptation, impact reduction and early warning. It requires mobilizing US$100 billion annually by 2020 to address the needs of developing countries in moving towards a low-carbon economy.

History is witness that Emperor Ashoka in his inscriptions also talks about pitying the creatures and saving them. In many religions, including Jains, Buddhists, there is a message of having compassion on beings. It was the armor of religious instructions that kept wildlife alive for a long time. But with the invention of modern weapons, it became difficult for wildlife to maintain their existence. However, the first law for the protection of wildlife was passed by the British government in the year 1879 under the name 'Wild Elephant Protection Act'. Many laws were enacted to protect poaching and extinct species in our country even after independence. However, all future projections of biodiversity extinctions are based on the mathematics calculation that if a wild animal's natural habitat is reduced by 70 percent, then 50 percent of the species living there will reach extinction. It is known from this geography of extinction that if the pace of destruction remains the same, then 10 percent of the species will be extinct from the earth in the coming 25 years. There are some rare species of wildlife in the Indian subcontinent, which are not found elsewhere in the world. We should not forget that the role of wildlife is very important in balancing the environment.

In Countries Like India, This Type of Crisis is Increasing

India is one of the richest countries in terms of bio-wealth. About 40 percent of the various species found in the world are found in India. But due to human greed and erosion of forests, the said species started to decline very fast and in the course of time some species ceased to exist. Although deletion is a biological process, untimely deletion is due to undesirable changes in environmental conditions, destruction of natural habitats of wildlife, deforestation and rapid industrialisation.

The figures in the booklet 'World of Mamals' published by 'National Natural Museum', New Delhi, are shocking. According to this booklet, 81 species of mammal wildlife in India are endangered. The number of Kashmiri deer has come down to 350. The number of Indian rhinos is less than 8,000. A total of seven breeds of lions are found all over the world. There were 10,000 lions in our country in the first half of this century, which has reduced to 2,000 today. Wild animals of the monkey species have been listed in the list of endangered animals. The crisis over the existence of black and white leopards has deepened.

So let us all together make a pledge to make our beloved land a sujalam-suflaam and also save the creatures of other species.

Endangered Species in India

Animal species that are endangered in India include lion, tiger, white leopard, rhinoceros, wild buffalo, Gangetic dolphin, red panda, Malabar Civet, Musk Deer, Sangai deer, reindeer, Kashmiri deer, Lion-tailed macaque, Short tail monkey, Orangutan, Nilgiri Baboon, Chimpanzee, tortoise, Pangolin, Golden pig, Wild ass, Pygmy pigs, Golden cat, Dugong, Spotted linsang, Jordan horse, Mountain quail, Pink head duck, White tail duck, Crocodiles, aquatic lizards, pythons, brown reindeer, Swamp deer, musk deer, nilgiri deer, etc.

Mankind is Engaged in Protecting The Earth from Danger

If our earth is capable of surviving, then the contribution of those who contributed significantly in preserving it by becoming its keepers. I am talking about Sundar Lal Bahuguna. Sunder Lal Bahuguna started the Chipko movement many years ago realizing the importance of his safety. In the Chipko movement, the villagers used to stick to trees. That is, by holding the tree tightly, they used to save the trees from cutting. In this way, the tree was saved from pruning. There are still many people who are preserving this natural heritage by becoming the keepers of the earth. I want to express my gratitude to them.
