➽ To love and serve India through a  phased and progressive solution, the first and foremost need is knowledge of relevant facts.

India is an underfed and under-nourished country. Eighty per cent of our people directly or indirectly depend on agriculture for their livelihood.

Food shortage is India's most pressing problem. India's growing sons and daughters need milk and other nourishments in addition to grains or cereals.

These being not withing the reach of the vast majority of the people there is chronic starvation or semi-starvation.

➽ To make matters worse, there is an alarming increase in our population every year. Population control, birth control, family planning are preached but rarely practiced.

Our Panchayats, our newspapers, our social workers, the radio and other instruments of influencing and moulding public opinion should make a concerted move to break the indifference of the masses to the increasing dangers of overpopulation.

➽ Literacy has not made much headway since we gained our freedom. About seventy per cent of our boys and girls do not go to school even today.

We need about twenty times more efficiently run schools than we have today. And even those who have completed their education are finding it increasingly difficult to get employment.

➽ Woefully inadequate medical facilities, irrigation facilities, flood and drought haves, too much litigation, poverty and very low purchasing power, the mounting increase in crime, bribery and corruption, overcrowded railway trains, communal tension and violence, un-economic agricultural holdings, anti-social outlook of many people, the insanitary condition of our villages and cities, many harmful customs and practices - all these and many others are India's pressing and urgent problems.

➽ The removal or even the near removal of these problems is a gigantic or Himalayan task. it requires the fullest, the most active co-operation of our people and our government.

We have quite a number of bodies and organisations which are meant to tackle these problems. But are most of these not mere window-dressing, and poor window-dressing at that ?
